The finish to the regular season is now directly in sight, with just a handful of matches left to play for Angel City FC. It’s been a rough season, at best, but there is still hope for a postseason with the team just two points off the final playoff spot currently occupied by Seattle Reign. Tonight, the team take the pitch for the first of two matches they will play over the next seven days, hosting expansion side Denver Summit FC in a first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Denver Summit has had a pretty good inaugural season. They’ve played decent football throughout the year, they are slowly establishing an identity and coming into tonight, they are currently four points off that final playoff spot, just one place behind Angel City. That’s what makes tonight all that more meaningful, postseason hopes are on the line along with what will be a massive three points. Striker Melissa Kössler is the leading scorer on the team, while Angel City fans will remember the five minutes forward Yazmeen Ryan spent in Los Angeles, she makes her return with her new club in what has been a phenomenal season for her. Former Angel City defender Megan Reid also returns with the expansion side, along with USWNT superstar Lindsey Heaps who controls their midfield.
We really hate to say the thing, but should Angel City want to see playoffs this year, this is another must-win matchup. Not only is this an expansion side, at home, but it’s a team that is directly fighting with you for that final playoff spot. Not to mention, a perfect chance to continue building on this winning streak they have going over the last two matches. Forwards SveindÃs Jónsdóttir and Prisca Chilufya seem to be hitting their strides as of late, while defender Sarah Gorden continues to anchor the backline. The key to this match will be in the midfield. Keeping possession, limiting Denver’s counter, not allowing them to connect to their frontline where the creativity resides. Luckily for Los Angeles, midfielder Ary Borges is available for selection, which will only help in their pursuit of keeping it clean in the middle of the park en route to what is hopefully a third win running.

The NWSL Playoff push has officially begun with a huge three points on the line tonight. A first-ever meeting on what is also Black Excellence Night in Los Angeles! Kickoff is set for 7pm PST from BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The match will be broadcast live and can be streamed on ION. The match can also be heard via iHeartRadio(ENG), as well as KWKW La Primera 1330 AM(SPA).
