With the big win now behind them, Angel City take the pitch again with just a handful of matches left in the NWSL regular season. With the playoffs just a fingertip away, the club wrap up the road trip with a visit to Louisville, taking on Racing. It’s the definition of a bogey team for Angel City, having only won twice, the last win in 2024, with the only win in Kentucky coming way back in 2022. With everything left to play for and a team getting healthier, this is the perfect time to kickstart a run of wins.

After a couple early attempts from the home side, Angel City settled in to control the opening 15 minutes of the match. They were playing like a team that knows how important the first goal on the road can be, and they were hunting for the opener early. For as clinical as Angel City were last time out against Boston Legacy, they were equally not clinical in the first half. Neither side was able to get past the opposing goalkeeper for the opening goal in the first half. Angel City went into the break with 60% possession, had more shots (7) and even managed to have more shots on target (2), as well as 20 touches in Racing Louisville’s box, but were unable to really threaten for a goal. This is how matches between these two sides tends to go, all we need now is the wacky goal to decide who get the three points, so lets hope Los Angeles are on the right end of that moment.
Racing Louisville woke up a bit in the second half, starting off the action strong with multiple early shots towards goal. Nothing really threatened Angelina Anderson between the posts, but it was an early warning sign that the home side was not about to settle for sharing the points. After withstanding the initial flurry to start the half, Angel City settled in and regained control of the match, putting the pressure on Racing through 65 minutes of play.
Angel City finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, and it was another moment of brilliance from distance. This time defender Evelyn Shores created just enough space to unload a long shot around the defender that found the back of the net for the lead in the second half.

Conceding the goal, expectedly, had Racing Louisville raising up like Undertaker, as they began to take control of the match, with Angel City looking to hold on to what would be a massive three points on the road. Racing nearly got the equalizer in the 85th minute, but the crossbar played excellent defense as a diving Anderson just missed getting a hand on the effort. Angel City closed the door on any comeback late in the match on a gorgeous build-up in stoppage time. Midfielder Ally Sentnor drove down the pitch, taking on defenders and at the perfect moment got of a pass to the overlapping defender Evelyn Shores who controlled the pass and without hesitation slotted it home for her brace, doubling the lead for Angel City.

The team were able to see out the shutout win, adding another massive three points to their tally. It can’t be overstated how big this performance and result were for Angel City. The playoff hopes remain alive and well, they close out the road trip with back-to-back wins, get the shutout win on the road against a bogey team, and have built up plenty of momentum for the return home. Now the attention shifts to another expansion side in Denver Summit FC, who make their first-ever trip to Los Angeles for the matchup.
