It’s been a rough few weeks for Angel City FC, not just with the results on the board and being in the middle of a four match losing streak, but just knowing in a lot of those matches, they were the better team for long periods of each match. After a hot start to the season, the goals have dried up, the defense has gotten a bit shakier, and what was working to perfection in the early stages of the season, is now getting lost in translation as the club struggle. This afternoon, the team get a chance to prove their point against a Portland Thorns team that was just in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. A match Los Angeles feels, was one of those that got away.

Thorns are in the middle of a great run at the moment, having won four of their last six matches, with one draw and their latest outing, a 3-1 loss at the hands of Racing Louisville. That loss really put a bad taste in their mouth because it opened the door for San Diego Wave to overtake them in the standings, where Portland currently sit in second. Thorns will be looking to protect that perfect 3-0-0 record at home this season, against an Angel City side they met not too long ago.
Four losses in a row. None with a greater margin than a single goal. All goals conceded in moments of mental lapses and minor mistakes, not by the opposition breaking down lines and cutting through the formation. Which makes this feeling even worse, knowing that for the most part, you’ve been the better team as of late, but have nothing to show for it. Not just revenge, but redemption on the line tonight for Angel City. They don’t just want to win, they want to prove they are the better team. They want to put on a better showing than they did in Los Angeles. They have never beaten Portland on the road, but today, they look to make history.
