Just three weeks after meeting in Los Angeles, Angel City FC make the trip to Portland to take on the Thorns. It was one of the many matches as of late where Los Angeles felt like the better side on the day, but couldn’t come up with the result to back it up. Now, they have an early season rematch with a chance at a bit of revenge, with a splash of redemption.

Through 20 minutes it was, much like before, mostly Angel City. They kept the majority of possession, they were the side putting on more shots and creating more looks on goal, but as has been the case lately, they just couldn’t get the rewards from the solid build-ups. The remainder of the first half was rinse and repeat. With the addition of Portland having a couple of attempts that weren’t the most threatening in the end, but were warning shots. The first half ended in a scoreless draw, but so did the last meeting. Angel City have openings, they just need someone to step up with a bit of brilliance.
Portland woke up for the early stages of the second half. They were getting into a lot more open spaces and were putting pressure on the Angel City goal. It remained scoreless through 70 minutes, which is around the time both sides began to make substitutes. The subs made a difference to the flow of the match, but not the outcome. Despite racking up corners and having plenty of opportunities between the two, neither side was able to find a goal before the final whistle blew. For the first time ever, a matchup between these two sides ends in a scoreless draw.
Angel City will most definitely be the happier of the two teams, getting a hard earned point on the road and snapping the losing streak. Overall, it was still a worrisome match, as Angel City continue to struggle to put the ball into the back of the net. Now, the team get ready for their last three matches before the summer break, with two of those three at home. The first, this Wednesday, as the team host KC Current, where we can expect another matchup where a result could be hard to come by.
