After setting the tone in Game 1, LAFC get set for their trip to Vancouver as they hit the road for Game 2 of this best-of-3 series against the Whitecaps. In a weekend that has seen several teams extend series to a winner-take-all third match, LAFC look to close the door and lock in their spot in the MLS Conference semifinals with a win this evening.

Desperation is dangerous
If there is one thing we know about playoff sports Stateside, its that anything, anytime, can happen. And usually does. Teams that look completely out of their depth seem to come up with one or two performances that make you say, hmmm, just look at the Eastern Conference matchup between Inter Miami and Atlanta United. Vancouver aren’t a bad team either. It took LAFC a penalty in the 30th minute to breakthrough with their first goal , and while they did get the second goal needed to hold on for the win, it was a very testy match with Whitecaps refusing to go away. This is a team that will have that ‘back against the wall, nothing to lose’ energy tonight combined with being at home. If ever there was a match to pull off a massive upset, its tonight.
Close the door
LAFC need to keep this match as clean as possible. No mistakes, no getting caught ball watching, no poor passes out the back, otherwise they could find themselves in a dogfight and given the history of LAFC on the road, could have them turning around for Game 3 in Los Angeles instead of getting a head start on the next matchup. Early goals are always the easiest way to set the tone and get out to an early advantage, but in a match like this, it’s just as important to prevent the early goal against yourself. LAFC have been able to continue their dominance over Vancouver so far in 2024, now they need one more performance to close the door, remove hope, advance to Conference semifinals, and not let any chances of an upset creep in.
