After a very eventful week, Angel City FC are in San Diego, preparing to take on NWSL rivals, San Diego Wave. Earlier this week, Angel City announced they had parted ways with Head Coach, Freya Coombe. In the same announcement the team appointed Assistant, Becki Tweed, to Interim Head Coach, while the team searches for a more permanent replacement.

Tweed, while excited for the chance to lead this group, understands that there is a lot of work to do if this side is going to salvage the season and make a legitimate push for the postseason. “I’m really excited and ready to push on and continue the hard work that has been happening in our season from all the coaching staff, technical side, and medical staff. They are a really good group of people and a great team with great energy, great vibes, and I’m grateful for the support” said Tweed when talking to media ahead of the match. When asked what has gone wrong this season so far , Tweed pointed to basics, focusing the team on trying to put together a solid, 90+ minute match.
“So far what we haven’t been able to do is complete a performance and the goal is to complete a 100 minute performance” said Tweed. “You’ve seen spells this season where we’ve been excellent and spells where we’ve taken off the gas. The goal for us is to now move forward and complete performances from minute one to minute 100.” Going up against San Diego is never an easy task, but having made a massive change near the top, this team could use that new coach bounce to come away with a massive three points.
