Another weekend, another quick turnaround for LAFC as they get set to take the pitch once again in what is the first of their final three matches of the regular season. Tonight, they pay a visit to the team they beat for the US Open Cup just weeks ago, Sporting KC. The good news, they have a bit of breathing room in second place, sitting two points clear of Seattle Sounders, with a match in hand. Still, with the top spot in the conference still a possibility, this team will surely want to get the win on the road, and keep this renewed run going into the postseason.

Playing spoiler
After losing out to LAFC in the US Open Cup final, you can guarantee Sporting KC will be coming into the match tonight looking to repay the favor. While there isn’t a trophy on the line, there is still the top spot in the West up for grabs. Granted, if the Galaxy win out, they will end up on top regardless. But if they slip up, LAFC can be right there to overtake them if they keep winning, which means serving up LAFC a loss tonight would be a sliver of revenge for SKC, knowing they are the reason we’d miss out on the number one spot. This is also the last home match of the season for Sporting, and we all know how much of a boost that can be for any team, even if they had a horrendous year.
Being professional
Historically, and recently, LAFC have owned this matchup. They have a 7-1-4 (W-D-L) record against SKC but have been absolutely dominant in recent years. You have to go all the way back to August of 2021 to find the last time Sporting came away from this meeting with a win, but as is the case in sports, anything can happen. With playoffs wrapped up and a new trophy to shine, you can find yourself getting complacent but with playoffs lurking, the last thing you want is the start of another rough patch.
“Getting healthy, at this stage of the season is a tough thing to do but we are getting there” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of the match. “They’re [the team] are ready to push one more time. Training was intense, so we’ll look for more of the same against SKC who we fully expect coming into their last home game of the season, and with a little bit of a chip, looking for some revenge. We’re ready, we have some ideas in place as well as some solutions.”
