Is it still midweek madness if it’s a Tuesday and not technically MLS action, but MLS teams still going at it? These are the questions that keep us up at night. Silver lining, tonight’s Leagues Cup matchup between LAFC and Vancouver Whitecaps should be chaotic, and that’s all we can ask for. That, and a win for the home side.

Whitecaps start their tournament
Tonight will be the first Leagues Cup match for Vancouver, with the unenviable task having to travel to Los Angeles to take on an LAFC side that has already gotten a match under their belts. What’s more, the Whitecaps are fresh off a friendly loss to Wrexham, and while that may not hold too much significance, their most recent loss in the MLS to end their six match unbeaten run, does. This is a side that comes into BMO looking to get back on track, and perhaps throw their name into the ring of competitors for the Cup at the end of it all. Whitecaps strikers Brian White and Ryan Gauld are who Los Angeles will need to keep tabs on, as they are the dynamic duo at the heart of the team’s attack.
Keep the momentum going
For LAFC, their task is actually really simple, just keep playing how they have been. It’s been said but more importantly, they have shown time and time again that when they are playing anywhere close to their best, they are as close to unbeatable as it gets. After their performance last time out, its clear they are taking this tournament serious enough to be a real threat to everyone else. This is a team that would absolutely love to add some silverware to a cabinet that is getting slightly lonely after the 2022 MLS Cup victory.
“These teams when we play them eight times in a year and a half, you can get a little lackadaisical” said LAFC defender Ryan Hollingshead when speaking to media ahead of the match. “You can get to think like, ‘alright we know how they play, we know what they’re gonna do’ and those are the times, against a team like this that is dangerous in the counter, dangerous as they are with their front three to score goals, they can surprise and put some goals away on us. So we will make sure we’re ready.”
