Midweek Madness has returned with LAFC set for action just days after their 3-0 shutout win at home over the Whitecaps. Now, the team travel to the Midwest to take on St. Louis City SC in what will likely be a tough matchup for the squad. Having proven they can dominate at home, its time for LAFC to start showing us they can at least do enough to get the win once, let alone with any consistency, away from BMO.

Heard it all before
By now we all know what it is. This is a team that has, to put it lightly, struggled on the road this season. So far, the only win they have away form Los Angeles came in their US Open Cup tournament opener, over the Las Vegas Lights. They are currently winless on the road in league play so far, with their lone result being a 2-2 draw with Portland Timbers. “I’m really interested to see how the team performs away from home” said Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of today’s match. “Its been a challenge for this group this season, and to keep the focus high and play a full 90 minutes like we did against Vancouver, is for me, the key to success.”

St Louis City SC have had the type of second year in the MLS many had probably expected. After a flying introduction in 2023, the team find themselves struggling to break from the middle of the pack. Sitting in 9th, St Louis are close to an exact replica of LAFC this season. They too have not won on the road, though with four draws and just one loss, and they too have gone unbeaten at home. They are currently in the middle of a seven match unbeaten run at home, and a five match unbeaten run overall coming into this match. “Its [St Louis] a team that is very good at home, just like us when we play at home” said LAFC defender Aaron Long. “Its going to be a very tough task going there, but we’re up for it. We’re up for the challenge. We want the result on the road really bad, so we’re going to bring it.”
This is only the second season in the MLS for the home side, so this will only be the third meeting between these two sides, however LAFC do hold the distinction of never having lost to St. Louis SC. The real trick for Los Angeles will be limiting mistakes. St. Louis is excellent at capitalizing on errors, and with how lethargic LAFC can get, they could find themselves down a pair of goals before even getting settled. That said, this is a team coming into the match with all the good vibes after the recent announcement of more French forces coming in as reinforcements. Perhaps this is the match the team finally get to tally that win column while on the road.
