The 2026 campaign has hardly begun and already LAFC find themselves in the thick of a busy schedule. Such is life when you are a team fortunate enough to compete across multiple competitions, with aspirations to bring home as much silverware as possible. After a very emphatic first leg, then another emphatic win at LA Memorial Coliseum to start their MLS season off right, LAFC are back in the comfort of BMO Stadium as they get set for leg two of the Concacaf Champions Cup tie against Real España. After a thumping in the reverse fixture that gave them a significant five goal lead on aggregate, the squad know the job isn’t finished, and now is not the time to let up.

To their credit, Real España were able to bounce back after the rough outing at home against LAFC, winning in their following domestic match at home against Lobos UPNFM. That said, this is a team that will be looking to put on a lot better showing than they did in the first leg, doing their best to chip away at the big deficit and maybe, just maybe, find themselves in a position to do the improbable by putting pressure on the home side. The Honduran side comes into this leg desperate and hoping to play with a lot more pride which makes them that much more dangerous.
That said, LAFC know this has trap written all over it. This is not a team that comes into tonight looking to rest a lot of players, rotate the squad too much or ease their foot off the gas pedal in any way. Speaking to media ahead of the match, head coach Marc Dos Santos said as much, “We have the responsibility of being LAFC to show up in every game to the best of our abilities, that’s our focus.” Dos Santos did also mention, when asked about players who don’t typically see many minutes possibly getting a run tonight, that he was looking to lean on everyone within this squad as LAFC face their third of four matches in a 10 day span. It is very possible we see some rotation, but don’t expect a whole lot of changes. It is still early in the season, and this is still a team on a mission to really emphasize their intent coming into 2026.
