After spending most of July in the comfort of BMO Stadium, it’s time for LAFC to hit the road and balance the scales a bit with an extended road trip. Five of the next six matches for the team will be away from home, with them kicking off a three-straight matches on the road tonight, with their first meeting in Chicago taking on the Fire.

In their last five matches, the Fire have won two, lost two, and drawn once. The currently sit right at the playoff line in the Eastern Conference. This will be just the third time ever these two clubs meet on the pitch, with Fire holding the slight advantage in that regard. Chicago won their first-ever meeting way back in 2018, and LAFC were able to work for the scoreless draw the last time these two met in 2019. Fire come into this one slightly shorthanded with several injuries, but the focal points of their attack remain. Hugo Cuypers and Phillip Zinchernagel will be players to keep eyes on for LAFC, making sure neither of them get going or find a way to score an early goal.
LAFC for their part, come into this match with the same type of form. Of their last five Los Angeles has won once, lost once, and drawn three times. Their most recent matches were in the Leagues Cup, where they were eliminated after phase one, with their MLS form slightly better, having lost once in their last five domestic matches, with three wins. That said, the bigger issue is how the team has looked on the road as a whole this season. LA has won just two matches on the road all year, and now they get set for a stretch that will see them away from BMO a lot to close out the summer. “We talked about it this morning actually. For every MLS team on the road, it’s difficult” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of the match. “It’s a mixture of things. It’s travel, it’s fatigue, and we’ve had a lot of games this year in congestion periods. That means three to four games a week. That is a lot, that’s not common and a lot of those difficult games have been away from home.”
