With the brief home stand now behind them, Angel City FC are prepped and ready to take on one of the best teams in the NWSL. Kansas City Current will host Los Angeles as the teams kickoff the weekend of NWSL action with a little Friday Night Lights action. Tonight’s match hits several key milestones for the team under new manager Alex Straus, as it will be his first road trip with the side this season. This will also be, by a wide margin, the toughest team he has faced so far, making it all that important that they put in a great shift going into what will be a long, but productive, break.

Kansans City come into this match flying high. Not only unbeaten in their last five outings, the Midwest side hasn’t even drawn in that stretch, winning all of their last five. Outside of their most recent 4-2 win over Racing Louisville, no opponent has scored more than one goal on them. In fact, the only team to get more than two goals past this side all season, was North Carolina Courage, who came away with a shocking win back in April, beating KC 3-2. Not just wins, but performance has been on point for KC, having scored 14 goals combined in their last five matches. The player to watch on their side is absolutely Temwa Chawinga who has already netted eight goals and has two assists in her 2025 campaign. In simple terms, this wont be an easy match by any stretch.
That said, Angel City may be coming in a lot worse result-wise, but that doesn’t mean they wont have a chance. The team has won just one of their last five, with three losses in that span. What is most worrying, especially coming into tonight’s match, is the form of the defense. The team has conceded a combined nine goals in the last five outings, and in three of those matches, have given up a goal in the first 25 minutes of the match. The biggest key for the team coming into this one will be tightening up the backline. If there is one team you cannot let get going early, it’s this team. That said, if Angel City can defend well in the first half, they can find their way into the lead. ACFC has scored in all but one of their last five, with a combined seven goals in that span. Alyssa Thompson and Riley Tiernan will be extra important this evening if the team hope to shock the world and come away with a massive three points tonight.
