Good morning Los Angeles, and welcome to another Angel City FC match day. This is another crucial matchup in the push for the postseason, but there is also a little extra on it with this opponent being a bit of a rival. These two teams have already met nine times previous, with Seattle absolutely owning Los Angeles with a record of 7-1-1 (W-L-D). The lone win for ACFC did come at home back in 2023, with this being the first meeting of the season between the two sides. A lot has changed for Seattle over the last year, however they come into this match far from the vulnerable team we saw earlier in the season.

Reigning over Los Angeles
This will be the 10th time these two meet with Seattle having dominated the head-to-head up to this point. The Reign have had a season to forget so far. After saying goodbye to their legend, Megan Rapinoe, last season, the team has seen a bit of an exodus as they go through what is a very obvious rebuild. While most of the season has been spent with them wallowing at the bottom of the table, the Olympic break seems to have done them a ton of good as they have woken up and gone on a bit of a run as of late. They have won three of their last five matches, having returned from the aforementioned break with two wins running. If you were to ask most Seattle fans, they absolutely were not expecting playoffs this season, and most still don’t, but coming into this match the Reign sit just four points off the final spot in the playoffs with 24pts still left up for grabs over the last eight matches. Making this match even more exciting, and all the more important for Angel City.
Adjust, don’t change
Angel City FC look to once again be set to make an incredible late season push after a really rough first half to 2024. The break was everything this team needed and more, with most of the players not being called up for Olympics, giving them all a chance to come together and focus on what needed to be done for the second half of the season. The team have also won three of their last five, with a draw and loss, but have come back from the break with two wins running and looking more improved with each match. Granted, if you were to look at their passing chart from StatsBomb, you’d still feel pretty sick, but its vastly improved from the start of the season. One thing that is really helping is the confidence in this squad and the constant pressure they are putting teams under now. They come into tonight tied on points with Bay FC for the final playoff spot, making this another near must-win match. Not only for the three points up for grabs, but for that mental edge and momentum boost that comes with taking down a rival that has gotten the better of you most nights.
*HEAT ADVISORY*
This is a little bonus for those who plan to come watch the team play this evening, whether out of state or leaving your house for the first time all week. We are currently in the middle of a massive heat wave here in Los Angeles, as temperatures today are set to hit 107 degrees. While the kickoff for the match is set for later on in the evening, expect it to still be warm and a bit uncomfortable if you’re not used to heat like this. The most important thing to remember, HYDRATE. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, heat like this is no joke and the best form of defense is drinking lots of water, as well as sun lotion for protection. The club have provided a list of essentials to know before the match, which you can find below.
