It’s another match day for Angel City FC today, with the season nearing its close. Just nine matches left, including the one this afternoon, as Los Angeles continue to fight for one of the final playoff spots still up for grabs. The Olympic break is truly behind us now, so expect teams around the league to be as strong as possible, with only those nursing injuries being held out. Angel City come into this one with everything to play for, as the playoff race is only just beginning, but now every match matters more. Might seem harsh, but Angel City are in must-win territory going forward, at least until they lock in a spot in the postseason.

Windy City meets sunny Los Angeles
Chicago Red Stars come into this match as one of the teams already sitting in a playoff spot, but have quickly watched their comfortable lead, rapidly diminish. Red Stars sit just nine points clear of last-placed Houston Dash. While not every team looks likely to make a move in the standings, there are a handful of teams on the outside looking in already making noise with some big wins as they wake up at the right time in the season. One of those teams, Angel City, who sit just five points off the Red Stars in seventh. That said, Chicago are coming in fresh off a loss to Racing Louisville on the road, and now travel to LA looking to change their fortunes. It’s been a rough stretch for the Midwest club, who have only won three in their last 11 matches. With every match getting more and more important, look for them to have that sense of urgency and slight desperation coming into today.
Find a way to win
This is a matchup that has proven to be as even as they get. Both sides have won and lost twice to one another, while there has been a single draw between the two. It was Angel City who were able to grind out, at the time a massive win, on the road against Chicago, and they look to repeat that result at home this afternoon. LA come into this meeting even healthier than the one before, and with a new addition to the squad. The biggest key for Angel City today will be continuing to put shots on goal. So much of the issues the team has faced has come down to the lack of bite in attack, but now that they are healthier and stronger up front, its important to set the tone of the match early and often with plenty of opportunities. ACFC have only lost one in their last five, so keeping this energy up and finding ways to leave with all three points should be the main goal. Even with a lacking midfield, this is a roster that should be able to, at the very least, threaten a lot more in the final third than they have been.
