The final stretch of the 2024 NWSL season is underway, with just three matches remaining for Angel City FC. The team are on the road this evening, taking on the always tough NC Courage, with their dwindling playoff hopes hanging in the balance. While the team will absolutely need help around the league in terms of results, they also need to put all their focus into the one thing they can control, their own results. A loss, and even a draw, all but ends the postseason push for Los Angeles, but win out, and you just never know what the NWSL Chaos gods have in store.

No urgency for NC
North Carolina come into this match firmly in fifth place. They are eight points off fourth, so moving up isn’t happening over the course of the final three matches, and while they are just six points clear of the spot below, the teams below them seem more keen on losing than catching up. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this North Carolina side start to focus on getting healthy as the playoffs approach. That said, you can never just presume any team in this league will just give you a chance at a free win. The Courage still have Ashley Sanchez and Kerolin ready to go, with the added advantage of being at home for this one.
Must-win mentality
Angel City on the other hand, come into this match with nothing but urgency. They are still six points off the final spot for the postseason, so winning is the only option. It will be the only option for the team moving forward if they hope to replicate last season’s late push for the playoffs. Los Angeles does own the historical advantage with a record of 3-1-1 (W-D-L) over North Carolina. The last time Courage got a win over ACFC was back in 2022, at home. Defense will be a big key for Angel City coming into this one. The last thing you can afford to do, even with improving form, is get into a shootout with anyone, let alone a team with Kerolin.
