It’s Thursday Night Football in the NWSL this week as Angel City FC take center stage when they host the red-hot Washington Spirit tonight. This is one of those matches where just about everyone outside of Los Angeles feels like the visitors from DC will come away with a pretty easy win. However, with the belief and experience of having already beaten this side, the added motivation of a postseason spot still within grasp, and being at home backed by some of the best atmosphere in the league, this match is far from predictable.

Washington Spirit will be coming into this one looking for their get-back. The last time these two teams met in May, it was Angel City that came away with the last-minute goal to secure the three points in DC, so you know thats on the mind of the visitors. Not to mention, this was back when Trinity Rodman was still out dealing with injury. Now, Rodman is back and the Spirit are looking like the hottest team in the league. They are currently on a 10 match unbeaten run, with their last loss back in the middle of June. While Trinity Rodman might be their biggest name, the one to really watch out for is Croix Bethune who is the engine that makes the attack go.
Angel City come into this one on a bit of a slide. After a solid run of four matches unbeaten, they have lost their last two matches. Perhaps more troubling than the results themselves was the slight regression we have seen from a defense that had actually started to drastically improve under new head coach Alex Straus. That said, one thing you can never count out is this team’s ability to pull together and do the unexpected. The team are still just three points from that last playoff spot, with a very crucial stretch incoming. A win tonight to secure the season sweep over a team like the Spirit would not only keep them on pace for the postseason push, but it could be the spark needed to ignite a run that could provide some real Disney magic to close out the season.
