We’ve reached the point in the NWSL season where a lot of the early surprises have settled down, and some of the expected top teams are starting to find some form. For Angel City FC, this is a crucial part of the season because this run before the long summer break can determine which side they fall on. Will they be the team that falls by the wayside, once again finishing the season without a playoff berth, or will they be the team we expect them to be. Improved, consistent, and ready to surprise a few people come Fall. After a rough couple of losses, the team are back at home, looking to right the ship against an Utah Royals side that is also looking to shake it’s past perception.

Utah comes into Los Angeles riding some really great form as of late. They have won their last three matches, making it three out of their last five, with just one loss and a draw thrown in. They have scored six goals and conceded just once during this short win streak and currently sit just above Angel City in the table. This is a club that, much like Los Angeles, is one looking to revamp its image and propel themselves into the conversation of contenders, so expect them to use this match as another statement game considering they have yet to beat Angel City, with this being the fifth meeting between the two. Midfielder Mina Tanaka and forward Cloé Lacasse are the two players to really focus on, but really this is a team that is starting to get production from all over the pitch.
Angel City aren’t in terrible form, but they do come into this match off the back of a pair of really tough losses. A last minute winner conceded against Orlando and most recently, the 2-1 loss to Portland in a match where they had a handful of chances, but couldn’t convert on them. The important thing in this match will be not letting the hauntings of years past linger in the minds of players. Can’t feel like ‘here we go again’, especially this early in the season. Staying aggressive in attack will be key, as will keeping shape defensively. It was announced in the week that defender Savy King will be out for a few months with a lower leg injury that required surgery (which has already happened successfully), so the team will need to navigate that loss at the back, but this is what the added depth in the offseason is for. This is the second of three matches at home during this stretch of games, making this the perfect time to get back on track, get back to scoring goals, and get back to securing wins.
How To Watch
Angel City will be looking to feed off the energy of the home crowd as they are set for an early evening kickoff of 5:45pm PST from BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The match will be broadcast live and can be streamed and viewed on ION. The match can also be heard via iHeartRadio (ENG), as well as KWKW La Primera 1330 AM(SPA).
