With the FIFA Club World Cup now over for LAFC, there is not much time to wallow in what could have been or lick wounds. After a short few days from action, the team are right back into their domestic campaign as they return to MLS action this evening. With their struggles away from home continuing across all competitions, the team will be happy to have this return come at home, in the comfort of BMO Stadium. However, they will be welcomed back to league play by one of the best teams in the league, Vancouver Whitecaps, who they meet for the second time this season.

Vancouver come into this match looking shakier than they have all season. They have won just one out of their last five matches, having conceded 12 goals in their three losses. They will also be shorthanded for this matchup, with several players away on International Duty, most notably, leading scorer Brian White, as well as Sebastian Berhalter. This match marks the silver anniversary of meetings between these two, as it will be the 25th time they will play one another. It’s been LAFC enjoying the bulk of the wins, but with how this season has gone so far, even shorthanded Vancouver has a chance to pull off what would be an upset with LA at home.
Speaking of, it has been a rough few weeks for LAFC. Yes, the Club World Cup was always going to be more learning experience than actual expectation of a deep run, they still come away from the competition having looked incredibly disappointing in moments. As has been the case all season, they struggled to get wins, or even results, while away from home. However, tonight the team are back in front of the 3252 proper as they return to domestic action at BMO. Before their journey in the Club World Cup, the team was on a nine match unbeaten run in MLS play, including a road draw against this Vancouver side. The biggest difference, there will be no Brian White for Whitecaps to lean on should LAFC jump out to another quick lead. Tonight is the perfect opportunity for LA to get back to wining ways with a struggling Whitecaps side, in front of the home crowd, in the first math back to MLS play. The road to the postseason begins now.
