After crashing out of the Concacaf Champions Cup, things are slowly starting to look better for LAFC. In just their two matches since the tournament exit, it’s been abundantly clear that the added rest with no midweek matches, has been great for them. The team are on a two match unbeaten run, set to host St. Louis City at home, and if last week was any indicator, we could finally be seeing both Denis Bouanga and Olivier GIroud hitting their stride and finding some form after a slow start to the campaign. With full focus on the MLS for now, the black & gold have another opportunity tonight to protect home field, snatch three points, and continue working on putting themselves in a better position in the standings.

After starting off the season with a brief unbeaten run, and looking like a team that might surprise some people this season, St. Louis SC has come screaming back down to Earth. Not only have they not won since those first two wins, but up until last week, they’d caught nothing but losses as they’ve sluggishly made their way through the first quarter of the season. With just one draw and four losses in their last five matches, St Louis is one of the few teams that have looked a lot worse than LAFC this season when it comes to attack. The visitors have scored just once in their last five matches.
Historically, this is a matchup that heavily favors LAFC. This will be the fifth time these two clubs meet on the pitch, with St. Louis SC still looking for their first win over the Los Angeles club. LAFC have three wins, with both sides sharing points once, back in 2023. Funnily enough, though not for St Louis, they have yet to even score in this matchup, losing by a combined 6-0.
LAFC come into this match riding a two match high that has seen them win one and draw one, but it’s less about the results and more about how they have played. “Two noticeable differences in the performances” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking on how the form Giroud and Bouanga have been finding as of late. “More active and a little bit of confidence and that’s it. That’s all it takes. He’s never been far off and for any attacker who’s not scoring, it doesn’t take much. It takes maybe a moment, a little more activity and simplifying things.” That’s been the case for the duo up front recently, as Bouanga has seen the scoresheet in each of the last two matches, and Giroud finally opened his MLS account in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Portland last time out. Now the team is at home, with both looking to keep form rolling, right into three points.
