It seems like almost an entire season ago this was the team that was scoring goals for fun, and piling up clean sheets with no end in sight. However, in sports, life comes at you all too fast and for LAFC, life has smacked them real hard the past month. It’s been a while since the team got a win that has felt convincing, dominating, relaxing. Recently, it’s been difficult to get a win at all, but just days after another big loss at home, the team have a chance to make amends and get some momentum to hopefully climb out of the recent rut they are in.

St. Louis comes into this match likely still upset over the first meeting between these two sides, back in March, becoming just one of several teams at the time to not only lose to LAFC, but suffer the shutout as well. For St. Louis City, that stings even more considering they have been held scoreless in six of the seven all-time matchups between the two sides. That might actually work out in their favor as they host an LAFC side that can’t seem to buy goals at the moment, on top of historically being a team that struggles on the road, this could be the perfect storm for St. Louis to get their first-ever win over Los Angeles. Forward Simon Becher will play serviceman to midfielder Marcel Hartel, who leads the team with three goals this season, both of whom will be leaned on to breakdown the currently leaky Los Angeles defense.
One draw and two losses running stands between now and when LAFC last got a win. Which isn’t terribly long ago, but the losses being a combined 8-1 scoreline with Los Angeles on the wrong end of that, it tends to make time slow in the city of champions. Now, the team will have to shake-off the big loss at home and take care of business on the road against a team that has never beaten them, and has only scored against them in one match all-time. If ever there was a team to get back on track against, it’s St. Louis. Which is what also makes this match worrisome. The key will be getting Heung-Min Son going. At the moment, scoring is increasingly hard for him, but the team still needs him to impact matches, even if it’s just creating space and assisting. They also need the defense to get back into form, as the unit that was racking up clean sheets, can’t seem to stop letting in multiple goals a match. Now is the time to not just get the win on the road, but do it without conceding.
