A week after making their return to MLS play, and just days after dispatching Real Salt Lake, Los Angeles welcome Sporting KC as they continue to build on what has been a very impressive run of form since returning.

Sporting KC comes into this match as one of the worst teams in MLS. Having won three of their last five, but splitting their two matches upon returning from break, SKC currently sit dead last in the Western Conference with what is the worst goal differential in the league by far at -22. They have conceded 40 goals, scored just 18 this season and now come to Los Angeles for what is the first meeting of the season between the two sides. The main source of attack for Sporting is a player LAFC will know well, Dejan Joveljic, who starred up front for rivals Galaxy once upon a time.
This is one of those matches that provides a real test for LAFC, not because the opponent is really good, or because bragging rights are at stake, or even because Sporting haven’t gotten a win over Los Angeles since 2021. No, with how bad Sporting KC are playing coming into this match, the real test will be how focused the black & gold can remain for this match. Not necessarily a trap game, it is a match that can leave you heartbroken if you come in taking SKC lightly. With all due respect to the other side, this is a perfect match to run up the score and really solidify some confidence, especially for someone like Sonny, who has scored in each of the last two matches since opening his MLS account for the season.
