With the Champions Cup dreams dashed, LAFC now turn their full focus to domestic competition as they now have the long road of climbing the standings of the MLS in hopes of putting themselves in the best position come postseason. While its still far too early to worry about that too much, with the club currently in 9th and in some of their worst form, it’s something to keep in the frontal region of your mind going forward. Today, the club are back at home and welcoming an old foe, San Jose Earthquakes. Historically, this one tends to be skewed heavily in LAFC’s favor, a trend they desperately need to continue this evening.

This is one of those rare occasions where, we come into a match with San Jose Earthquakes, and we can’t talk about them being below LAFC in the standings, as currently, they sit one spot above Los Angeles. Such is the sign of the times for the black & gold. With focus having been on Concacaf chaos to start the season, the team have let their standings in the MLS slide, but now that the Champions Cup chase is over, the team are ready to put their all into securing that second MLS Cup, with their long road to redemption starting tonight. The Earthquakes form as of late has been slowly improving. A 1-1 draw to Seattle Sounders snapped a three-match losing run, and their last match was a 6-1 blowout of DC United at home. Fans will also recognize a familiar face, as Josef Martinez leads the frontline for San Jose.
Oddly enough, tonight marks the fourth straight meeting between these clubs, in Los Angeles, with San Jose last at home against LAFC, over a year ago in May of 2024. That is also the last time San Jose got the best of the black & gold as well, as Los Angeles have won the last three meetings by a combined 13-4. However, form hasn’t exactly been phenomenal for LA. The club have lost six of their last ten matches, having lost the last two on the road. Now, having been eliminated from one competition, they have to right the ship and get back on track in MLS if they want to put themselves in a spot to go after the MLS Cup this season.
