Just seven matches remain for LAFC in the MLS Regular Season. That’s 21 points left up fr grabs as the team currently sits fairly comfortably in fifth place in the Western Conference. While they are a slim 12 points off the top of the conference, with how San Diego FC are playing, the chances of catching them are just that, slim, even with a winning run of matches. However, they are just one point off fourth-placed Seattle Sounders, and being fourth means holding the home field advantage for round one of the MLS Playoffs. While the team’s form on the road this season has been rocky at best, they have seen a lot more consistency with performances away from home this last month, and will have another chance to build on that momentum tonight when they take on Utah side, Real Salt Lake.

Much like San Jose, Real Salt Lake are currently in the middle of a fight for the playoff lives. They are currently on the outside looking in, but are just one point behind San Jose with two games in hand. Their recent form has left plenty to be desired, with three losses and two wins in their last five matches. This is a team that keeps scores close, and typically low, as the last time they have scored more than two goals in a match was back in early July. Conversely, they don’t concede too many either, allowing more than two goals in just four matches all season. Diego Luna leads the attack and the team with his nine goals, with the team looking to lean on him at home against Los Angeles.
LAFC come into this match riding some really impressive form. Just one loss in their last five, if you go back even further, Los Angeles have lost just three times in their last 13 matches, with one of those losses coming via penalties in Leagues Cup action, so really, just two losses in regulation in their last 13 outings. The team are also on history watch, as Denis Bouanga needs just one more goal to surpass club legend Carlos Vela, as the club’s all-time leading goal scorer. As we mentioned earlier, the most important mission at the moment for the black & gold, is trying to secure one of those top-four spots in the West, ensuring they open the 3-game-series Round One of the playoffs, as the hosting team. The higher the seed, also puts them in a better position to host the single-elimination matches that follow the opening round series. But there will be time to work out all of that, as we said, seven matches left to figure it all out and the best thing LAFC can do, is just keep on winning.
