International break is now over, and while many will have their eyes affixed to the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to arrive stateside in just two months, LAFC still have a job to do. Last we saw the black & gold, they had seen their win streak snapped on the road at the hands of Austin FC. Luckily, the match ended in a scoreless draw, so not only do Los Angeles remain unbeaten to start off the new campaign, but impressively they remain the only team in the MLS to have yet concede a single goal. Tonight, they look to get back to winning ways while keeping that defensive record unblemished as they host Orlando City.

These two teams couldn’t be more opposite coming into the match tonight. Orlando currently sit third from bottom in the Eastern Conference, just three points from last place. Through five games in MLS action they have won just once. They have also conceded a league high 17 goals so far this year, with two 5-0 losses in their last three outings. Now, they come to Los Angeles with hopes of pulling off what would undoubtedly be the biggest upset of the early season. They will lean heavily on striker Martín Ojeda who currently leads the team with two goals, as well as midfielder Iván Angulo, who is their set-up man, leading the team with two assists. In a way, they will be incredibly dangerous because they have nothing to lose. Nobody expects them to win, doubtful anyone expects them to score, which makes them the type of team that could cause a slip from Los Angeles, especially right off the back of International break.
For LAFC, this is the exact match they wouldn’t want coming off break. In recent years Los Angeles can have a tendency to ‘play down’ to opponents, something they need to avoid at all costs against Orlando. As we mentioned, World Cup is getting ever closer, and players might have an eye towards the global tournament with hopes of solidifying their places with their respective countries, now more than ever Marc Dos Santos needs to keep his side focused on the tasks at hand. While Orlando have given up the most goals in MLS, LAFC have yet to concede a single one in league play. In fact, they have only conceded one goal three goals all year, all coming in the Concacaf Champions Cup competition. The real question for this team coming into tonight, can they avoid playing to their competition, and will we finally see Denis Bouanga and Heung-Min Son break the slight scoring slump they find themselves in, as the team look to shake off the draw from before break, and get back to being the dominant force they have been to start the MLS season so far.
