It’s the end of the road in Los Angeles for soon to be former LAFC forward, Olivier Giroud. Just over a year since his arrival, the Frenchman and LAFC have mutually agreed to part ways. Giroud will play his last match with the club this Sunday at BMO Stadium as the team take on Vancouver Whitecaps.
Merci, Olivier.

“Olivier has been an exemplary professional during his time at LAFC,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington in a statement. “He brought humility and a winning mentality that helped elevate everyone around him. Olivier has been a tremendous ambassador for the club on and off the field. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him, his wife Jennifer, and his family all the very best in this next chapter.”
“I want to thank all of the fans, my teammates and the staff at LAFC for making this an enjoyable stop in my career,” Giroud said in a statement of his own. “I am happy to have played a part in the success of LAFC. From winning a trophy last season to participating in the Club World Cup, this has been a great experience in L.A. for me and my family.”
The 38-year-old striker joined the club back in May of 2024, arriving from Italian side, AC Milan. The club had hoped the prolific goal-scorer would have just as fruitful a spell in Los Angeles as the team looked to not only secure another MLS Cup, but had hopes of adding several other trophies to the cabinets. Unfortunately for both parties, that just wasn’t the case. In his 20 appearances for the club, he tallied just three goals and four assists. Though to be fair to him, one goal came in the 2024 Leagues Cup Final, and another came in the 2024 US Open Cup Final, a goal that would help LAFC secure their first-ever Open Cup trophy. With his last match this weekend, here is hoping the Frenchman parts ways on a high, with a goal in his finale, and three points to what will be his former club. We wish Giroud all the best going forward in whatever path his career takes.
