It’s been a rough few weeks for LAFC. After a hot start to the season, the team has since found themselves struggling to keep that energy up as we approach May. With the long 2026 FIFA World Cup break looming, the once unbeatable aura the team had is gone, replaced by the need to just get through the next month. Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals may be around the corner, but first, Los Angeles head to Minnesota to take on Minnesota United in a match they hope snaps the three match winless streak in MLS action.

Minnesota will play host to Los Angeles for this matchup, coming into the weekend on some really great form. They are unbeaten in their last six matches, with two draws and four wins. They have conceded just two goals that same span, and currently sit fourth in the Western Conference standings, but are on equal points with LAFC. They will be looking to pile on Los Angeles, not having beaten the black & gold since 2024. Forwards Kelvin Yeboah and Tomás Chancalay as well as midfielder Joaquín Pereyra makeup what has been a three-headed attack for Minnesota. If they get going, it could be just what the home side needs to extend the winless run by Los Angeles.
LAFC are in some pretty rough form at the moment. Two losses and a draw in their last three MLS outings, but more than the results, it’s been how rocky things have looked for the squad. The draw at home against Colorado was primarily down to Hugo Lloris turning back the clock and keeping the team from conceding, otherwise that could’ve been a repeat of San Jose’s thrashing. The biggest issue for the team at the moment is attack, as it remains clear that Sonny and Denis Bouanga haven’t really fully found their form this season. The real question coming into this match is, will we even see them at all. Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals start at the midweek, and we know how much priority LAFC are putting on that competition, meaning we could see another rotated squad for this meeting against Minnesota. Even if we do, the youngsters and defense will need to carry the load and help get this team back on track, and back to that winning feeling. Could be the perfect match for Nathan Ordaz and perhaps a start from David Martinez to see if they can make magic happen and inject a boost of serotonin into this squad.
