It’s another match day forΒ Quick-turnaround FC LAFC, who are up against another in-state foe, LA Galaxy. No need to overhype this rivalry, we know exactly how much these meetings mean to both sides. Just days after a dramatic late-match penalty winner from Carlos Vela, the team are back to defend their fortress, with a spot in the US Open Cup Quarterfinals on the line.

The black & gold seem to be in action just about every other day, but it’s hard to complain when the reason for so many matches in a short time, is down to the team being wildly successful and continuing to collet dubs. Just a few days after getting their lick back over San Jose in a dramatic late-match penalty winner, the team are back on the pitch against their bitter rivals, LA Galaxy. This is the second time this season these two meet with LAFC finally getting their first-ever win in the Galaxy’s house, 3-2. This time, it’s not three points on the line, but a trip to the US Open Cup Quarterfinals, and an opportunity at finishing the season with a trophy.
LAFC have a bit of a decision to make for this match. Up to now, the team has used to USOC to give some valuable play time for their youth/reserves, who typically don’t see the pitch. The thing is, LAFC are very much in a ‘let’s win every trophy we can’ mentality at the moment, and with quarterfinals on the line, this tournament has reached serious days. The other side of the coin is a look to the future, with the squad heading to Mexico in eight days for the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Final. The question will be, how much time will the squad need to recover?
For the Galaxy, they need this win in the worst way. They are not only last in the Western Conference, but have the worst points total in the MLS, meaning this competition will more than likely be their only shot at obtaining a trophy this season. Despite being on complete opposite ends of the spectrum, these are matches where form matters little, and anything can happen.
