Since they aren’t competing in the Champions Cup, Houston Dynamo have played just one match so far in their 2026 domestic campaign, a 2-1 win at home over Chicago Fire. Houston now look to build on that opening weekend win, welcoming the hottest team in the MLS at the moment. That said, if anyone has had success at home over LAFC in recent history, it’s surprisingly the Dynamo. Last season, these two sides split the series with both teams winning at home. Two players Los Angeles will have to keep an eye on are midfielders Guilherme Augusto, who scored twice in Houston’s win to start the season, and a player LAFC fans will know well, midfielder Mateusz Bogusz who had a very fruitful spell in Los Angeles before moving to Mexican side Cruz Azul, where he spent one season before returning to the MLS with Houston.
The reason this is the first real test for LAFC on the road comes down to history. Los Angeles hasn’t gotten a win in Houston since 2019. Considering Dynamo have been one of the bottom of the table teams pretty consistently in that span, make it all the more shocking. That said, the last time LAFC had a team this stacked going into Houston was, 2019. This will also be a chance to see if the black & gold have finally shaken off their road woes that have plagued them the last few years in MLS play, especially early on in the season. The big key for them coming into this match will be two-fold. First, as always, keeping that hot attack rolling. Having David Martínez continue his great form to start the season will be key as Houston will undoubtedly try their best to neutralize Bouanga and Son. The other big key will be defensively. As mentioned, this team has allowed just one goal so far this season, and will need to keep the lid on the goal as to not give Houston any momentum at home in this one.
