April hasn’t been kind to LAFC. After a brilliant start to the season that saw them go unbeaten through their first 11 matches, and not conceding a goal in their first six MLS matches, they have now hit a rough patch. A loss to Portland Timbers on the road could be written off as just a product of the team rotating their squad in preparation for the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals second leg (of which they were able to successfully advance through), but the latest loss at home at the hands of San Jose Earthquakes is one that stings. It isn’t the loss as much as it was the method. For the first time in a couple of years, the team were hit square in the mouth at home, and dominated as Earthquakes went on to win 1-4. With that bad taste still in their mouths, the team turn focus to Colorado Rapids as they look to bounce back at home in a big way, and get back to being the team they started off the season as.

Colorado Rapids have split the first eight matches of their MLS campaign, winning four and losing four. However, their form lately hasn’t been too bad as they have won three of their last five. On their day, they are a team that can score goals in bunches with striker Rafael Navarro leading the attack. He currently has four goals and three assists to his early season tally. Historically, Rapids are one of those Western Conference teams that gives LAFC a hard time, but typically that’s when the two meet in Colorado.
LAFC come into this match fresh off back-to-back losses in MLS play, the latest a belt whooping at the hands of San Jose who stunned them with three goals in the span of just six minutes. Some good news for the team, Stephen Eustáquio appears to be off of the injured list, meaning we could likely see him make his return to action, even if for a short spell. A welcome return to the midfield as he was huge in creating opportunities for his attackers earlier in the season. While we mentioned Rapids are a team that gives LAFC trouble, when it comes to meetings in Los Angeles, it is all one way traffic. In the nine meetings in LA, Colorado has scored just twice, never gotten a draw and never won. If ever there was a time to get back to winning ways, it’s this match tonight.
