Match day 18, take two. After their road match against Austin FC last week was postponed due to the ongoing floods happening in Central Texas, LAFC are set for the start of what will be a very important July as the team will spend most of this month in the comfort of their home stadium. With an extra week of rest and preparation, the team are back home for what is shaping up to be a very crucial month for the black & gold. For the third time this season, but the first time domestically, Los Angeles are set to take on Colorado Rapids, who currently sit even on points with LA, but have four extra matches played. Hovering closer to being out of the playoffs, than in, this month is going to be a crucial one for LAFC as they get to enjoy home field advantage nearly all month long.

Colorado Rapids are a team that, much like LAFC, are struggling to find consistency as they begin their push for a postseason. Their form in their last five is nothing to write home about, winning just once, with one draw and three losses. They have scored six goals in that span, while conceding eight. They are right on the bubble, as the last time on the right side of the playoff line, while sitting with the same amount of points (26) as LAFC. However, that last part is a bit misleading as Colorado, much like most of the Western Conference, also have several more matches played than Los Angeles. That said, this is a team that already took down the black & gold once this season, way back in March in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup first round. Now, its three points on the line as the Rapids will be leaning on leading goal scorer Djordje Mihailovic who currently sits at eight goals scored so far this season.
“I think Chris [Armas] does an amazing job of getting every ounce of quality out of his teams that he has coached” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of tonight’s match. “We have our hands full, but we are at home and it’s definitely our expectations to win this game.” That last part is what makes this month of matches so crucial for LAFC. The team that has been, quite frankly atrocious on the road, will have four of their five matches in July, played in the comforts of BMO Stadium. The black & gold hold a record of 6-2-1 (W-D-L) at home, and while they have games in hand, they do sit at the bottom of the postseason line, making this a prime opportunity for them to use that home field advantage this month to really right the ship and get to stacking some wins, starting tonight with Colorado Rapids. Hugo Lloris and Maxime Chanot are still out injured, and with no Giroud replacement brought in so far this summer, it remains on the shoulders of Denis Bouanga to get this attack going.
