Los Angeles Football Club is already a global brand. Truly. The reach of the back & gold extends far past their home in the heart of Los Angeles, and that is something the club has worked on from the very beginning. This was the team that connected with supporters of Borussia Dortmund way back when they were first building as a club, to help get a sense of what European atmosphere looks like, and how to replicate that here in LA. Every step since then has been to one, make sure this club succeeds on the pitch with trophies, and having deep runs in every tournament they can play in. Second, to help ensure LAFC is more than just a local club, spreading the name of LAFC and MLS as a whole, as far past stateside as possible. Tonight, the team have a massive opportunity to continue that mission, and find themselves in one of the biggest tournaments an MLS club can play in, the FIFA Club World Cup.
All to play for.

“This is a great opportunity for LAFC our organization, but also the MLS and therein lies the challenge” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of tonight’s match. “I think LAFC, we are in good form and I think we have shown it the past couple of years. We have been one of the best teams in our league, and have done well in CONCACAF competitions too.” This will be just the third time LAFC take the pitch against their opponents, Liga MX giants, Club América. The first meeting was in the 2020 CONCACAF Champions Cup, where LAFC got the better of the Mexican powerhouse, winning 3-1. The last meeting was back in 2022 during the Leagues Cup, a match that ended in a scoreless draw. What is also interesting is that this match, as well as the previous two, will have all been played in Los Angeles, and given the form away from home this season, is another advantage to LAFC.
Club América come into this match struggling in form a bit. Having won just two of their last five matches, and only scoring two goals in their last four. This will be their first match of the season against an MLS side, and how appropriate that its LAFC, a team from the MLS that they have yet to beat. That said, despite their illustrious history, this is also a massive match for the Mexican side, who love to measure themselves up with the best clubs on the planet.
LAFC come into tonight in great form, but mixed vibes on the whole. On paper, this team has gone eight matches unbeaten, they have won two of their last five matches, with three draws, and having scored at least two goals in each of those matches. The only concern, is that two of their three draws in that five match span, came against quite literally, two of the worst teams in the MLS. Still, they didn’t lose, and have been able to keep their hot goal scoring alive despite the slightly disappointing results. That said, this is absolutely a team that has found their form at the best time, and with one of the biggest matches in club history tonight, while at home, this is the best time to really put the club on the global stage.
