With the start of the 2026 campaign just around the corner, and preseason set to begin in a little under a week, LAFC are still hard at work fine-tuning a roster they hope can return them to MLS Cup glory. Today, the club announced they have added even more attacking depth after claiming forward Tyler Boyd off waivers this morning. Boyd’s contract runs through the 2026 season, with an option for 2027.

“Tyler brings valuable experience, attacking quality, and a strong mentality to our group,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington in a statement. “He has proven throughout his career at club and national team level that he can influence matches in meaningful moments, and we’re excited for him to see those qualities as we push toward our goals this season. We’re thrilled to welcome Tyler and his wife, Rebecca, to LAFC.”
Boyd arrives in Los Angeles after spending his last two seasons with Nashville SC where he made 26 regular season appearances with 14 starts, scoring two goals and serving up four assists. He also started three Concacaf Champions Cup matches, where he scored a goal for his side. Internationally, the New Zealand native earned a special exemption that saw him make the switch to the United States Men’s National Team where he made six starts on 10 appearances, scored two goals, and got an assist. His most recent international match was in 2019 during the Concacaf Nations League where he made three appearances with one start, earning one assist.
As for what he brings LAFC, Boyd is an experienced, veteran attacker who is familiar with the MLS. While he wont be leaned on to provide the bulk of the scoring, he can be a very savvy substitute off of the bench. With youngsters such as Martinez and Ordaz still growing into their own and finding their way as players, Boyd brings that certain level of experience that can’t be taught. It will be interesting to see how he is used under new head coach Marc Dos Santos, but it appears LAFC have the belief that you can never have too many attacking options.
