To say the road hasn’t been kind to LAFC this season, would be a pretty big understatement. The team that so often looks unbeatable when at home in the comforts of BMO, in the heart of Los Angeles, tend to look the exact opposite when away from home. Even the short 30 minute drive down the freeway when taking on their rivals, has them struggling to find results. In their seven MLS matches away from home LAFC hold a record of 1-3-3 (W-D-L). This evening, the team face the longest road trip of the season as they visit CF Montreal, looking to not only extend their unbeaten run to eight matches, but find a way to turn around their form on the road against a team that, much like last opponent, has struggled to find wins anywhere this MLS season.

Montreal are the Eastern Conference version of LA Galaxy this season. Well, to be fair, unlike the rivals down the road, Montreal indeed do have a win already in MLS, but just one. The Canadian side has lost three of their last five matches, with just a single draw and that one victory. More importantly for tonight, the hosts will be missing a slew of players through injuries, with key defender Joel Waterman, serving a red card suspension. While these are two teams that have rarely seen one another, this will be another chance for the home side to get a result off Los Angeles, something they have yet to do.
“Psychologically, this opponent is in the same situation as our opponent last week was” said LAFC Head Coach Steve Cherundolo when speaking to media ahead of the match. “There are certain ways to approach games like this. We are facing a team that really wants to win, that needs to win, who’s at home. We’ll expect a team that is ready to give 100% in all categories, and we need to be ready for that.” LAFC will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches tonight, but more importantly, they will be looking to kickstart some proper road form this match. As mentioned earlier, this team has only won a single match when away from home, and with this being the longest road trip of the season, as well as a match just one week before the team get set for the biggest match in club history, this just screams trap game.
This will be just the third time ever these two sides meet on the pitch. LAFC have won the previous two meetings, but the last time these two played was all the way back in 2019, which as well all know, was an historically great LAFC side. That said, Los Angeles recently has not only found some consistency, but they have started to find the goals, which they could do with plenty of tonight. With their FIFA Club World Cup play-in match just a week away, this will be a test of focus for the black & gold.
How To Watch
