In a way, this is a must-win match for LAFC. Yes, the team already have their playoff spot cemented so there is no worry about losing that, and yes, they already have a top four spot locked down to ensure they get at least one round of postseason to host at BMO, but they are still aiming higher. With just two matches left in the regular season, Los Angeles continue to push for the top spot in the Western Conference and if they want to keep that goal alive going into decision day, they will need to come away with all three points this evening as they hit the road to take on Austin FC.

This is the makeup match from July, when these two had their match postponed due to severe weather and flooding in the area back when it was supposed to take place. Austin FC are riding a bit of a skid at the moment, losing their last three matches and finding themselves tumbling down the standings. Good news for them is they have also clinched a playoff spot, so losing out doesn’t completely ruin their season, but they would likely want to go into the postseason with some better form. They are also going to be without their top scorer for this match, as striker Myrto Uzuni is off on International duty. That said, Owen Wolff, the teams second leading scorer, will be available and will be one to keep at bay as Austin look to turn around their current form at the expense of Los Angeles.
LAFC come into this one currently playing their best football of the season. Six wins running, and their last three have ended in clean sheets in their favor. They have not just been a team piling on goals, but a team that has seen their defense improve drastically over the last two months, despite injuries at the back. This will be the second match Los Angeles will be without Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min as the pair, as well as two others, are away on International duty. Scoring, at least finding the opportunities to score, doesn’t seem to be an issue for LAFC these days, so the biggest key to coming away with a win on the road will be the defense. Keeping Austin from scoring early will be huge, as they look to use the home crowd to their advantage, so keeping them quiet will go a long way in breaking them down on the pitch.
