After putting away Colorado Rapids at the midweek, LAFC continued their home stand this weekend with a battle against fellow Western Conference foe, FC Dallas. After a rough start to the summer in terms of form and results, the black & gold looked to make it two wins running against the Texas side. FC Dallas came into Los Angeles never having left with a win, and LAFC were able to keep it that way with their 2-0 shutout win.

If there is one thing LAFC knows how to do, it’s win at home. While their overall form has been inconsistent at best throughout this season, most of that has been down to their struggles away from Los Angeles. However, when it comes to playing at home, this is still the team that knows how to use the crowd to their advantage, and make sure they defend home soil. This past Saturday was no different. It wasn’t the most outright dominant performance, but it was efficient. The first half saw LAFC keep a nice 69% possession, racked up 362 passes on a very impressive 94% success rate, only had four shots but made the absolute most of them.
One of those shots came in the 31st minute where the team took the lead, courtesy of Nathan Ordaz, who continues his breakout season. On the receiving end of a pinpoint pass into the box, Ordaz simply turned, and had one of the clearest looks at goal he could have imagined and wasted no time in getting the shot off for the goal. The score made it goals in back-to-back matches for the youngster as he continues to show just how real his talents are.

As the first half came to a close, the team earned another great look at goal, in fact, the best look at goal you can get as the team earned a penalty in the 42nd minute. Denis Bouanga showed off his ability to draw a foul in the box as he baited two defenders into making a mistake as he got set to blow past them with his pace. After the call was made, cameras caught Bouanga flashing a very telling grin as the Gabonese striker knew his plan was a success. He stepped up to the spot, sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, and slammed it home to double the lead as he front flipped in front of fans in celebration.

It’s a great thing LAFC built their lead early, because FC Dallas seemed to have found a way to put a force field around goal in the second half. While possession for the black & gold dipped in the second half to 60%, they did triple their shot attempts with 12, seeing seven hit the target, but zero finding the back of the net. The mind was willing as the team were hungry for another big win at home, but the body was not able to get the ball over the line for more goals. Still, the team did well to avoid conceding as their defense put in another great shift, and they closed out the match with a clean sheet, making it not only back-to-back wins at home, but back-to-back shutouts, as the team are starting to finally look and feel like the team we thought they could be from the start. The only negative on the night was seeing defender Aaron Long go down with a non-contact injury. We will update you when the team provides an update themselves on the severity of the injury, but we are all crossing fingers and toes as we hope for the best. Now, the team get set for their only road trip in July, as they fly across county to take on Minnesota United at the midweek. This will be the real test of their current form as they look to get their second win away from home on the season.
