The West Coast hype train that is Angel City FC has taken the show on the road, taking on growing East Coast rivals, Gotham FC. Just eight points separate the two sides in the standings, with Gotham holding one of the last playoff spots. If LA wanted to find success at the end of their playoff push, a win today was almost necessary.

Not only was this 4th of July weekend, but the match also marked the 100th NWSL appearance for Angel City FC midfielder, Savannah McCaskill. The first half was even in every sense of the word. Possession was edged out by the visitors, who kept 51% to Gotham’s 49, but that was the only advantage. Both teams were only able to get off two shots, with both finding the target twice. Even passing, both teams finished the first half right around 190. With all three points still up for grabs for both sides, it was shaping up to be a very intense, and hot, second half.

There were a few more chances for the two sides to start the second half, but for the most part, the match remained evenly split. Neither side was really taking too much of a chance in attack, guarding against the counter. On the flip side, the goalkeepers for both teams were on top of their game, and the ball. The home side began finding more opportunities as the half went on, adding to their shot total while ACFC stayed stagnant.
By the time the final whistle blew, both sides were gassed, and scoreless. Angel City had a strong finish, ending the match with seven shots, but couldn’t find the end result. While a win would have likely catapulted the LA side right into the thick of the postseason race, a draw isn’t bad. Especially on the holiday weekend, in heat like they faced, on the road and short-handed. The team will be back home next week, hosting North Carolina Courage.

Out of curiosity, could someone let me know the details of Endo’s injury as well as why Emslie hadn’t been playing recently? I have trouble finding any injury news online or during the broadcasts. Also an update on Vignola would be welcome. That looked bad.
