To say it’s been a sluggish summer for LAFC would be an understatement. The team have only seen one win over the last month and a half, the attack remains dried up most days, and they have seen their postseason position continually get worse with every passing week. Still, as bad as its been, this is a team that is only one win away from igniting a run, and while they come into Frisco, Texas shorthanded due to international break, they are hoping tonight is the night they kickstart a proper postseason run.

You could see the impact of missing so many key players had on Los Angeles, early into the match. The team were set on playing more defensively, knowing their best chances at goals would come through counter attacks or set pieces throughout the match. That isn’t to say they were completely passive, but it was clear LAFC came in playing like a team missing all of their main scoring threats.
It was difficult for FC Dallas to break down the sturdy defense, as Los Angeles were doing well early to limit the chances. Unfortunately, the one way to help breakdown a stubborn defense is to get set pieces and in the 33rd minute, FC Dallas got a corner kick and took full advantage. A minute later, the ball was sent into the box where Osaze Urhoghide was there with a strong header that sent the ball humming past Lloris for the opening goal of the night to give FC Dallas the lead in the first half.

The header would be the only goal scored in what was a pretty slow first half. FCD went into the break with more possession (53%), both sides had six shots, but it was the home team that had more shots on target (2) and most importantly, it was FC Dallas that had the goal and the lead. To no surprise, LAFC started the second half a lot more willing to take risks in attack. They were going forward more, knowing they had to get aggressive if they were to come away with a point, at least.
The score remained at one goal to Dallas through 70 minutes, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. FC Dallas were peppering the goal and doing well to get looks on their hunt for a second, but Los Angeles did well enough to keep them out for the time being. In the 73rd minute LAFC got a corner of their own and it had looked like chaos struck. After the initial ball into the box was sent away by the defender, the ball bounced around on second efforts before falling to Armindo Sieb who looked to equalize. However, a very soft foul call resulted in the goal being called back.
That would be the closest LAFC would get to saving a point in this match as FC Dallas were able to run at tired legs and nearly added more, but settled for the one goal win in the end. The loss wraps up what has been a forgettable road trip for the black & gold, as they get ready to host Vancouver Whitecaps in their return home on October 10th. Now, the team can spend the next couple of weeks figuring out what has gone so wrong as of late, and what they can do to fix it and fast. With MLS Cup Playoffs looming, the last thing this team can afford is to limp across the line.
