Despite an unbeaten run of draws, August hasn’t seen the best football from LAFC. After two losses the team were able to fight out a draw at home their last time out. Now, they look to get back on track against a DC United side that are fighting just to make the playoffs. This will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2022, with DC United never getting a win over Los Angeles.

A familiar face got the start for the home side DC United, young forward Nathan Ordaz, who DCU purchased for over $2m in a deal earlier this year. After getting his fitness up, the youngster was making his first start for his new club, in his first match against his old club. DC United got off to a flying start, peppering the goal early in search of the opener. It looked like they had their score in the first 15 minutes, but were ruled offside in the build-up.
After withstanding 25 minutes of DC pressure, LAFC were able to settle in. For the rest of the first half it was all Los Angeles. LAFC finished the half with 63% possession, five shots, 16 touches in DC United’s box and came close to finding the lead on several occasions. They couldn’t find the back of the net, but going into the halftime break, they were in full control of the match. It felt like there were goals to be had in this match, the question was who would find the back of the net in the second half.
Despite being controlled the final stages of the first half, it was DC United who came out strong to start the half once again. They nearly got their opening goal in the first 10 minutes, but Hugo Lloris had arguably one of his best saves of the season to keep it scoreless and level. It wouldn’t be the only time the veteran goalkeeper would be needed. In the 63rd minute a mistake out the back from defender Ryan Hollingshead led to a clear shot on goal that was saved by a diving Lloris who was able to get down quick and stop the slow, but fast-paced shot.
Los Angeles were able to threaten the goal as the match went on, much like in the first half. Unfortunately, much like the first half, they came close but couldn’t find the finishing touch to get it over the line and into the back of the net. Hugo Lloris was a wall between the posts and it was a good thing too because any goal conceded would’ve been a loss for LAFC with how the offense played tonight. The final whistle blew after a hefty amount of stoppage time, but neither side were able to break the deadlock before the end of the match. With both sides needing a win, this one played out to a hard-fought draw. The team will get a week to rest, recover and figure out how to get the attack kickstarted, before taking the pitch again on the road against Real Salt Lake.
