Wrapping up the road trip with a visit to Texas to take on Austin FC, LAFC had one thing on their mind, keeping the streak going. Despite a draw in Champions Cup, the MLS campaign has gone perfectly with the team coming into this one having won four matches, and doing so by way of four clean sheets. Now, the team look to once again prove their road woes are a thing of the past as they look to extend what has been a record-setting start to the season for the club.

The first 20 minutes of the match were, as expected, back-and-forth. LAFC were on the front foot, looking to get Heung-Min Son and Denis Bouanga going in attack early, while Austin FC were looking to snag an early goal at home to try and really put pressure on Los Angeles. Thankfully, the stellar defense for LAFC continued as they had a player ready to put a stop to the opponent’s attacks early.
It was very much a chess match throughout the first half, with both sides poking and prodding, looking to find that bit of magic to take the lead. Neither side found it, but it was LAFC who had the more favorable looks at goal, unable to convert. If Los Angeles were going to come away wit the three points, they would need a vintage second half surge. Luckily, with how the defense had been playing, it looked like it would be a tougher hill for Austin to climb in finding a goal, than their counterparts.
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw Los Angeles turn the screws just ever so slightly, continuing to ask questions as they found more and more looks at goal. A great effort from Austin FC’s defense kept them out of the goal, for the moment, but it very much felt like goals were to be had in this one, it was just a matter of finding the right combination of magic and creativity for LAFC.
After withstanding the early pressure to start the second half, Austin FC started to apply pressure of their own, earning set pieces and a corner that nearly broke the heart of LA fans. For a moment it looked like Austin had scored the first goal of 2026 against LAFC, but after a look from VAR it was determined that former LAFC midfielder Ilie Sanchez was in an offside position as he blocked Hugo Lloris, negating the goal and keeping the scoreless run alive, for the moment, with 30 minutes left to play.
It was just one of those nights for LAFC. They continued to get shot after shot after shot after shot off towards goal, but it was Austin’s defense that held strong, bending but not breaking as we entered stoppage time. The final whistle blew as the teams settled for shared points in what was a very defensive scoreless draw. The winning streak comes to an end for LAFC, but they do remain unbeaten in MLS play, still not having conceded a goal. Now, the team will get a nice break as we hit the international window, with their next outing set for early April.
