Match Preview Angel City FC: Los Angeles face prime opportunity in Utah

In a lot of ways, this is a full circle moment type of match for Angel City FC. The team travel to Utah tonight to take on the Royals in a battle of two teams that desperately could use a win at the moment. The Royals currently sit at the bottom of the NWSL standings, while Angel City remain just a few points away from getting right back into the postseason race.

To say Utah has struggled this season would be an understatement. The Royals have won just one match this season, and are just one of two teams still sitting with a single-digit points total, with six points. Utah has lost four of their last five, with a pretty impressive draw against top team Orlando Pride thrown in there. Earlier this month Utah also made a trade to send standout youngster, midfielder/forward Ally Sentnor, to Kansas City for a large bag of money. That also means their attack will now run through attacker Bianca St-Georges.

Angel City aren’t in too much better form, but still have plenty to play for at this point in the season. Even just a couple of wins and favorable results will see them firmly back into the race for a postseason spot. First, they have to take advantage of the prime opportunity at hand tonight. As we mentioned earlier, this is a bit of a full circle moment for the team as the last time they had a win, it was at home against this Royals side back in May. Since then the team has seen a dip in form and results, a summer break, and a bit of improvement their last time out. Now, they look to finally secure the first-ever NWSL win for new head coach Alex Straus. The key will be defense, as it has been in recent matches, as that seems to be the achilles heel for this side at the moment. Utah isn’t a very potent attack, but they are still professionals, but if ever there was a time to get a clean sheet, it’s tonight. Add to that the continued chemistry being built amongst the new attack, and this match presents a prime opportunity for the team to come away with a really impressive win on the road.

How To Watch

Angel City can’t let chances like this slip away, as they continue their hunt for their first win under Straus, and the first win since May. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm PT from America First Field in Sandy, Utah. The match will be broadcast live and can be streamed on Paramount+ for those in the USA, and NWSL+ for International fans. The match will also be broadcast live via radio, which can be heard with iHeartRadio while Spanish-language broadcasts can be heard on AM980 KFWB.
