Getting some much needed training time under new head coach Alex Straus isn’t the only thing Angel City FC are focused on during the NWSL summer break. With some roster space to work with the team continued their youth movement with their latest addition to the team, bolstering the midfield. Today, the club announced the signing of U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team player, Evelyn Shores. The midfielder put pen to paper on a deal that keeps her in LA through 2028.

“I’m so excited to play at Angel City FC because of the incredible energy and support that surrounds the club,” said Shores in a statement. “The environment is amazing, and I can’t wait to be part of a team that’s making such an impact on and off the field. I am also so excited to play in front of all of the passionate fans at BMO Stadium.”
“We are thrilled that Evelyn has decided to start her professional career with Angel City,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “After winning a national championship with UNC in 2024 and being a top performer for the USWNT U-23s this year, we know Evelyn has the quality to help our team over many years. Evelyn has an exciting future and we are privileged that she feels our environment is the next step to continue her development while supporting Angel City with our goals in bringing trophies to LA.”
Shores joins the club out of the University of North Carolina where, as aforementioned, she played a crucial role in helping her team win the 2024 National Championship. She earned five goals and four assists in 23 match appearances for a total of 1,001 minutes on the pitch for the Tar Heels. Due to an ACL injury during her freshman season, she did not return until the final 10 games for UNC in 2024, notching a goal and an assist in the third round of the NCAA tournament to defeat Minnesota and go on to win the title. Shores also has the distinction of being the only collegiate player on the most recent U-23 USWNT roster.
Shores has had a very busy and productive summer. During the friendlies in Germany with the U-23 squad, she scored her first International goal, which also happened to be the match winner in second-half stoppage time, as her side beat Germany 2-1. She then traveled to participate in the The Soccer Tournament (TST) where she joined legends Heather O’Reilly and Carli Lloyd on the US Women team, where she again hit a match winning goal, this time to help her team take home the $1 million tournament prize. To say this is a player that could help in the middle of the pitch for Angel City would be a massive understatement. Don’t be surprised if we see Shores early and often under Straus, as the team look to put on a strong second half of the NWSL season.
