Just because Angel City FC have wrapped up their initial week of teased signings, doesn’t mean the job of preparing for the 2026 season, is done. Not by a long shot. Today, the club continued to fine-tune and solidify their roster, announcing they have signed forward Riley Tiernan to a contract extension that will see her stay in Los Angeles through the 2028 season.

“I am so beyond excited to be staying in LA!,” said Tiernan in a statement. “I cannot express how thankful I am for the warm welcome I received from everyone as a rookie. I am so grateful to continue to learn, grow, and improve as a player here at this amazing club. Not only that, but getting to do it in front of the most incredible and supportive fans of all time. I know we all want that championship soon and of course the Jersey in me has to throw this quote in there….hungry dogs run faster!.”
“Riley had a fantastic start to her professional career in 2025, and we are so thrilled that she has extended her contract with Angel City,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “We believe this is just the beginning for Riley and I’m excited for Alex and our technical staff to continue supporting and challenging Riley to new heights.”
Tiernan is a testament to just how quickly one can make an impact in the NWSL. She joined Angel City during preseason ahead of the 2025 campaign, as a non-roster invitee and quickly earned her spot on the roster with her performance during the Coachella Valley Invitational. She didn’t stop there, putting together a rookie season for the ages.
She started all 26 matches of the season for Angel City, logging 2,206 minutes, scoring eight goals and coming away with one assist. She opened her account in style, scoring the game-winning goal at home against Seattle Reign, securing the first win of the season for Angel City FC.
A first professional goal to remember! 🙌

Tiernan finished 2025 as the NWSL’s top-scoring rookie on the season, ranking second all-time in the NWSL for rookies in history, as well as setting a new Angel City FC single-season scoring record. While Tiernan put forward one of the best rookie seasons we have seen in the NWSL, she still has so much more room to grow and improve, and its no surprise Angel City wanted to make sure she does it right here in Los Angeles.
