The week of signings for Angel City FC continues as the club continues to build out their roster ahead of the 2026 season. One of the more difficult clues to decipher, a cherry and bomb emojis, was revealed this morning with the club announcing they have signed University of Louisville defender Karsyn Cherry. The defender joins Los Angeles on a three-year contract.

“I am very excited and grateful to be able to play for a club like Angel City FC,” said Cherry in a statement. “The fans, community, and culture are top tier, and I can’t wait to be part of it. Joining a team with such incredible talent and to build lifelong relationships with everyone there is a special opportunity for me. I can’t wait to see what we do for each other and for the city.”
“Karsyn is an important addition to our backline bringing qualities that we have admired as we followed her collegiate career,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “Karsyn is a ball-playing defender with a great range of passing as well as an ability to dictate play. Defensively, Karsyn is relentless in dominating duels, defending her box and defending 1v1. Player development is a key part of Angel City, and we are excited to bring another exciting young talent to our club.”
Cherry is one of those defenders that is no stranger to finding the back of the net. She joins Los Angeles after a stellar four-year career at Louisville where she made 69 appearances with 68 starts, tallied just over 5,600 minutes, while scoring 12 goals. It didn’t take long for her to make an impact, scoring her first goal in her first career start as a freshman in 2022 for the Cardinals.
In 2024, as a junior, she led the team with six goals and was the captain of the squad that year as well. Her senior season in 2025 saw her make 19 starts and finish her career with three goals, as well as earning second-team All-American honors, helping guide Louisville to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. She joins an already fairly young squad, and will be part of an even younger backline that features Evelyn Shores, Gisele Thompson, Savy King, and of course veteran star, Sarah Gorden. Time will tell, but on the surface Cherry seems like a very solid addition and a player that will help push the attack forward from the back, something the team almost definitely wants to continue doing in 2026.
