Kennedy arrives on contract through 2025, with a mutual extension option for 2026. She arrives on an undisclosed transfer fee. “I am really excited to join Angel City and return to the NWSL, ” stated Kennedy. “I was inspired by the club’s mission and purpose and I am looking forward to arriving in LA and meeting all my teammates. Equally, I am excited to get to work and contribute to the team’s success on the field.”
“Alanna is an experienced defender who brings both leadership and a winning mentality to our team,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “Her international experience with Australia, coupled with her ability to play in multiple defensive positions, makes her a versatile addition to our roster. We look forward to seeing her contribute to the culture and success of Angel City.”
Kennedy has spent the past four seasons with Manchester City, earning 40 match appearances, one goal and one assist in 2,901 minutes on the pitch. Prior to joining Manchester City, she spent a season with Tottenham Hotspur. This isn’t the first time in the NWSL for Kennedy, as the defender helped the Western New York Flash secure an NWSL Championship in 2016, before heading off to Orlando Pride for a couple of years, eventually landing in England in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
In what has been a theme for Angel City in signings recently, Kennedy is a veteran with championship experience. While the league has dramatically changed in the years since her departure, she’s no stranger to playing on American Soil. Add in her experience from playing in the WSL, and this is a player ACFC hope can not only provide some solid production on the pitch, but be someone the younger core can look to and lean on throughout the season.
