The last few weeks for Angel City FC have been rough. Last week’s trip to the Bay ended in a 0-2 defeat, but it was a match that the team was clearly not ready for mentally. Now, back at home, and a week that on the surface felt a lot more like business as usual, the team look to push forward knowing their teammate Savy King is now on the mend and recovering, as they shift full focus on the rest of the season ahead. That road starts tonight with the team hosting Racing Louisville. This will also most likely be the last match for Interim Manager Sam Laity, as the new man in charge, Alexander Straus, is set to take over the helm sometime in June. With International break on the horizon, it’s more than likely Straus will be on the sidelines when the team return to play June 7th. First however, they look to go into that break with three more points in the bag, and a return to the form they were building before everything got turned upside down.
We’re back and ready to tear it up!

Much like Angel City, Racing Louisville are coming into this match fresh off a shutout loss, though they were at home when falling to Seattle Reign last time out. Their form is a bit better at the moment, having lost just two of their last five matches, with two wins and a draw sandwiched between their losses. Racing is a bit of a conundrum in the NWSL at the moment. There have been plenty of times you find yourself watching them thinking about how good the team is and how they could absolutely sneak in to the playoffs. But then you can watch a match and they look like the worst team in the league, even worse to the eyes than the Chicago Stars at times, which is saying something. So, the biggest question coming into this match will be, which Louisville shows up, because if they are indeed on top of their game, it could be a grind for Angel City to get the result at home.
Speaking of, Angel City suffered a 0-2 defeat on the road, in a match they were very clearly not mentally ready to play given all that had happened to Savy King the week prior. With even more good news coming out in that regards, with King at home, with family, and beginning the recovery process, the team can hopefully get focused on the task at hand and get back to winning ways. As mentioned, this is the last match before they have a couple weeks off for International break, so going into that period with three points and the excitement of a new manager coming in, would be massive. “Training has been very good, the team trained very well. Last week was very challenging and difficult. This week has been back to normal. It’s been a very good week” said Interim Manager Sam Laity when speaking to media ahead of the match.
