In the NWSL, it’s never really too early to talk postseason. As we hit the halfway point in the season, with teams starting to re-settle in after the long summer break, things are starting to shape-up in terms of playoff positioning. For Angel City, the break did them a world of good as it allowed them to recharge and rekindle that fire that had them looking like legit contenders to start the 2026 campaign. Tonight, they have a chance to continue building on their recent run of form as they welcome the team at the bottom of the NWSL standings, Racing Louisville.

It’s been a real rough season for Racing Louisville. They have won just two matches, with two draws and 10 losses, putting them in last place in the league. Racing have lost four of their last five, splitting the points their last time out. Not only are they struggling for form, but Louisville come into this one missing a handful of players, notably, midfielder Taylor Flint (suspension), and possibly forward Emma Sears (illness), who has been a bright spot for Louisville in what has been a rough season. Interestingly, all four results for Racing Louisville have come at home, with them failing to earn a single point on the road so far this year. They will have their work cut out for them tonight, in a very hot Los Angeles, against an even hotter Angel City side that has yet to concede a goal since returning from break.
Angel City come into tonight looking to make it four wins, and dare we say, possibly four clean sheets running since their return to action from summer break. The team have seen their form drastically improve compared to what we saw going into break, and a big reason why has been the return of forward Sveindís Jónsdóttir who continues to not only find the back of the net, but creates chances for others. Coming into tonight Los Angeles sit in the last playoff spot, having played the fewest matches of the teams in the top eight. Racing Louisville might look like food on paper, but we know better than that in this league. An early goal, keeping sharp and not giving up easy opportunities will be key for Angel City if they want to secure the three points and continue to prove they are the contenders we thought them to be when the season started.
