It was a very busy 2025 for Angel City FC goalkeeper Angelina Anderson. Her third season with the club kicked off in massive way as she was called up for United States Women’s National Team senior team action for the first time in her career, in early January. The milestone moment set the tone for Anderson who looked to solidify her place as the starting goalkeeper in Los Angeles throughout the 2025 campaign. Despite having to navigate two different head coaches with two different tactical philosophies when it comes to goalkeeping, and a brief stint on the sideline due to injury, the 2025 NWSL season was a real solid showing for Anderson, who was one of the bright spots in what ended up being a fairly disappointing season for the club.

Anderson started in all 22 of her appearances this season, missing just four matches with the aforementioned injury near the end of the year. In those appearances she went the full 90 minutes, logging a total of 1,980 minutes of NWSL action for the year. Anderson faced a total of 112 shots, making 74 saves while conceding 37 goals. She saved one of the five penalty shots she saw this season, and kept two clean sheets this season, both 2-0 wins at home. From the back she had nearly 70% pass success rate, with 112 of her long balls finding a teammate. While she may not have racked up the clean sheets, she was a huge reason why the team often times only conceded just one goal in match, despite it not ending in results. Given the difficulties the defense faced this season, Anderson was often the last line of defense against some of the more prolific attackers in the league, and she did more than just hold her own more times than not.

“She has a very, very wise head on her shoulders” said Interim Head Coach Sam Laity when speaking about Anderson earlier in the season. “Her ability to stay relaxed and calm when things get challenging and difficult. We [Angel City FC] are in a position where we’re looking to create leaders not just of today, but of tomorrow and Angelina, we see as being a really important part of the future of this club.” The club locked Anderson down to a longterm extension shortly before the season began, keeping her in Los Angles through the 2028 season.

The most impressive part of Anderson’s game has been her ability to improve. After a standout few appearances as a rookie, and a rocky start to her sophomore campaign in 2024, she came into her third season with a lot more confidence and a lot more consistency. Despite missing time with injury, she returned and immediately got back to putting on some amazing performances. Under new Head Coach Alex Straus it will be interesting to see the next step of improvement for Anderson as Straus showed flashes of what he expects in a keeper. Someone who is just as comfortable with the ball at their feet coming out the back, as they are stuck between the posts keeping opposition from scoring. There’s little doubt that Anderson will come into season four looking to not only help Angel City secure more positive results, but will also be looking to begin establishing herself as one of the best in the league.
