The match day before the long summer break has arrived. Wrapping up the first third of the season at home, Angel City FC are set to host North Carolina Courage as they look to finish this part of the season strong, and go into the summer break with a win under their belts. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to begin, with North America hosting the festivities, meaning there will be a nice long pause in NWSL action as several stadiums become hosts for the global tournament this summer. For Los Angeles, after the hot start to the season has cooled off drastically, this upcoming break provides a chance for the team to get healthier and hit reset as they look for a bit more consistency. A big win at home as they get set for the period away, would be a big boost to morale.

North Carolina currently sit just outside the playoff line in 9th place, looking to establish some consistency of their own. They have won four matches all season so far, two of those wins coming in their last two matches, as they come to Los Angeles looking to make it three in a row. Ashley Sanchez and Manaka Matsukubo are the two players for Courage who Angel City will need to keep tabs on throughout the match, as both are crucial to North Carolina’s success in attack. The last time North Carolina visited Los Angeles they did come away with the win, after never having gotten a result in SoCal previously.
With the busy week behind them, Angel City look to closeout the first part of the season with a win at home. Three matches in a week’s time ended with a draw, a win and a loss for Los Angeles, as they continue to try and recreate the form from earlier in the season that saw them score at will and stack up wins as they looked to finally turn the corner this season. Now, the team are trying to climb out of the recent struggles, and have one more chance at home before we pause for a month. Historically, Angel City tend to do well against North Carolina at home, as we mentioned, the visitors have only gotten one result in Los Angeles, a win in their last visit, but typically this is a match dominated by Angel City.
The biggest key for the home side today will be staying sharp throughout the entire 90 minutes. The last few outings we’ve seen Angel City dominate the majority of their matches, only to be undone by a momentary lapse in judgment or a small mistake that gets punished immediately. If they want to go into the summer break with a win, they will need to keep focused and limit those mistakes, because Sanchez and company are excellent at making teams pay for mistakes.
How To Watch
