Midweek madness has hit NWSL this week, with several teams in action during the midweek. One of those teams, our own Angel City, who still sit in the standings with a couple games in hand on the teams above them. Fresh off snapping their losing streak on the road this past weekend, Angel City now look to lean on that home field atmosphere and get back into the win column against a stacked, and very good, Kansas City Current side that will be looking to climb their way back to the top of the table.

Through nine matches already this season, KC Current have lost four with zero draws on their record. They have won four of their last five matches, with the last two wins coming with a clean sheet, having conceded just one goal in their last three outings. Current didn’t rest on their laurels after running rampant on the league all regular season last year, but not having reached the Finals left a real bad taste in their mouths. Now, they are reloaded, even if the change at head coach has left them floundering more than flourishing, they still have a really talented lineup that can cause a lot of problems. Namely, reining NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga who bagged a brace last time out, and forward Michelle Cooper who is pinpoint at putting balls into the box.
Angel City FC come into tonight having finally snapped their four match losing skid, however, they did so in a scoreless draw, still unable to unlock the offense that had sent chills down defenders earlier in the season, nor were they able to get back to winning ways, but they did avoid the loss against a tough Portland team, on the road, which itself is a little win. Now, the team look to put their defense to a real test against a very potent Current side that can score in a hurry. Much like we saw last year, the key might be to defend for dear life, picking and choosing when to push forward. The other key will be converting chances. Kansas City is not a team you can miss handfuls of shots against and hope to not pay the price for it. While not many give them a chance tonight, they can still pull off the minor upset if they can get one of their typical early attacks to get over the line and into the back of the net. Taking an early lead against KC would be a huge weight lifted off the players and give them that freedom they need to really let loose throughout the match.
