Life in NWSL sure doesn’t get any easier. One minute you’re flying high, winning matches, beating top teams in the standings. The next minute you’ve lost to the worst team in the league, after putting up a stinker at home, and staring down a trip to one of the most potent attacks NWSL has seen in nearly a decade. If that felt oddly specific, it’s because thats the task at hand for Angel City FC this afternoon as they hit the road to take on KC Current.

If you didn’t know, Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has gotten underway, meaning both sides will be without players. Angel City will once again be without Prisca Chilufya who is representing Zambia in the tournament, while Kansas City will be without reigning golden boot and NWSL MVP, Temwa Chawinga, who is representing Malawi. The Current will also be without Michelle Cooper, Laney Rouse, among others, who are out with injury. That said, this is still a team that has incredibly clinical finishers and can put it into the back of the net. At home, the Current will be leaning on Debinha, LeBonta, and Croix Bethune to be enough to get the result. As we hit the halfway point to the season, sitting mid-table isn’t at all what Kansas City had planned for the year, so expect them to use this match as an opportunity to make a statement themselves.
Speaking of statements, Angel City need to shake off whatever it was that we saw last time out. Loss aside, it was just one of those performances that felt like a ‘slammed back down to Earth’ moments after what had been an incredible run of wins since returning to action. Now, the team face both a test and opportunity. Yes, KC Current are a tough side, and facing them at their place is never easy, but with them shorthanded, now is the perfect chance to use this as a bounce-back match. A chance to get back to winning ways, doing it over a team that will likely be one competing against them for a playoff spot and positioning. This will also be the first visit back to KC for Ally Sentnor, making it the best time for her to open her Los Angeles account.
How To Watch
A chance for Angel City to bounce back from the loss and get back to winning ways over a shorthanded KC Current side. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm PST from CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The match will be broadcast live and can be seen on ION. The match can also be heard via iHeartRadio(ENG), as well as KWKW La Primera 1330 AM(SPA).
